EXULANSIS STORY - Luxe Dragon Focal Multistrand collarpiece

Exulansis: (from the Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows) - the tendency to stop talking about an experience because others cannot relate to it.

The making of this piece is a singular, solitary experience. For days and hours it is a meditation on hundreds of thousands of individual tiny beads all rising up like an ocean wave to make a visual poem.

The focal is a carved jade dragon claviculum. It is organically connected to the beads using a vessel technique where the beads are allowed to fill a space so the object is permanently connected (as long as the bead strands are intact), with the beads spilling through and forming a tasselled pendant. Green pearls wrap around the necklace to position the pendant. The pendant is fully removable - see the photo of just the necklace (which has about 60 strands)

The clasp is also spectacular: it is a modern reproduction of an antique pin, made into a sleek box clasp that is very secure and makes a smooth flat fit on the nape of the neck. Made in Germany with Swarovski crystals in Jonquil, Olivine and Light Colorado Topaz. GoldenTwin Clasps brought us this spectacular piece from Germany and notes:" The finish is ruthenium, a metal element in the platinum group, which gives a gunmetal grey look."

You may ask what color this piece is...there are about 40 different Miyuki and Toho (size 15, mainly) seed bead colors mingling in subtle harmony here. they range from pale greens to soft coppery bronze, with the main shades being in the silvery grey range. Overall, it has a neutral cast, but it is decidedly not a neutral neckpiece. It has a strength and fortitude forged from the hours of contemplation (mine and others) that brought it into being.
